German Conversation Get-Togethers
German get-togethers are for members and friends to practise conversational German at any level. Beginners to advanced are very welcome.
Friends of Alzey offer members three opportunities to speak German:
- A Stammtisch takes place in the Oddfellows Arms on the last Saturday of every month.
- German conversation evenings take place monthly in a member's home.
- A German literature group meets on agreed dates in a member's home.
Stammtisch
The concept of a Stammtisch (much loved and used in Germany) is that the same table is always reserved in a bar or café for the use of the particular group at the same time every week or month. The group members simply go to that table at that time without the need to notify the group organiser. Our Stammtisch for conversation in German is in the Oddfellows Arms, Leyton Green from 10 to 11.30 a.m. every last Saturday of the month.
German Conversation Evening
Conversation evenings take place at a member's home around the middle of the month, typically starting at 7.30 p.m. and lasting around an hour and a half. Date, time and venue information will be provided (by email to our members) on a rolling basis as far in advance of each date as possible.
Please phone the host for the particular evening either on the day or the day before the meeting. If this is not possible please don't let it stop you from attending. There is a charge of
£2.00 per evening which includes a glass of wine or soft drink and nibbles. You will be very welcome to participate in as many or as few evenings as you like. For further information please email: info@friendsofalzey.com.

German Literature Group
There are many book groups
in Harpenden but ours is different as books are selected from German literature to read, study, discuss and enjoy. Meetings at members' homes are arranged on an ad-hoc basis depending on the progress of reading the current book.
